According to Mel Robbins, waiting and relying on motivation to achieve your dreams and goals are not enough.

Here’s why:

You learn about the FitFil National Weight Loss Challenge and the people who have lost the weight inspire you to do the same.

You feel that you can do it too! You start imagining how good it would feel looking in the mirror with your college days figure.

You’re uber motivated! As in you have that top of the world, sky high, nothing can beat you feeling!!

AND you decided to lose 20 pounds by the end of the year.

You go online, register, join the community and literally, 30 minutes later, the feeling slowly starts to go down.

You start thinking.

“Kaya ko ba talaga maglose ng 20 pounds?”

“Anong sasabihin nila pag hindi ko na-hit yung pledge ko?”

And slowly that lizard brain tells you that you can’t do it.

The motivation and inspiration is now nowhere to be found.

But what if.. just what if.. there is something so simple that will help you push through every time you feel like giving up.

All you have to do is just count backwards, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and then just do it.

Let’s use it to where we are at right now.

You want to lose weight. You want to lose 20 pounds by the end of December 2017.

We know the next thing we need to do is to not drink soda on your lunch break.

But somewhere back in your brain, a small voice tells you, “Okay lang yan. Pwedeng bukas mo na umpisahan ang no soda diet mo.”

Lunch break comes and you’re at your staple fast food place.

You’re next in line ready to give your order and the voice creeps in again:

“Hindi masarap kumain pag walang soda. Pagod ka and you deserve it. Atsaka ang init kaya.

You and I both know that there is no motivation to be found in that exact moment. Not even a hint of inspiration.

So what do you do?

You physically count, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and just do it.

You stick to your objective and just suck it in. You will not order the soda.

It’s that simple. It isn’t easy. But it’s that simple.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 GO!

That’s all you need to do.

You can use it with practically anything.

That extra set of push ups but you feel that you can’t do it and you feel so tired?

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 GO!

That moment when you need to go out and do your run but the sofa and the tv looks way more comfortable with a bag of chips?

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 GO!

When you see that nice slice of cake in your ref winking at you but you know you’ve had enough sweets for the day?

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 GO!
